Growth for the Mind, Body, Heart and Spirit.

One to one work is aimed at achieving deep personal growth and change.

This work can offer a life-changing opportunity that supports you to pause for a moment and ask yourself what do you want out of your life, relationships or career? What would a fulfilling career, relationship, life look like and what kind of person do you want to be?

Through this work you can unpack thoughts and feelings that may be holding you back, and develop strategies to achieve your goals. So instead of letting life pass you by, you can live a life more in tune with your needs.

Who do I work with?

I work with individual adults. Face to face and online. Indoors and Outdoors. With my canine companion and without. I do not work with adolescents, families or couples. If you require a referral I would be happy to offer one.

One to One Intensives

One to One Intensives are 2 or 3 day Bespoke Coaching or Counselling Retreat in which we work at a deep level to create shifts and transformation which are aligned with your wants & needs.

Intensives are usually done best in person - which acts as a personalised mini retreat in the beautiful West Cork. Depending on the type of work, sometimes online can be suitable.

I find this intensive way of working to be powerful, efficient and sustainable. For people who find meeting weekly or fortnightly, month after month either frustrating or ineffective, intensives are often preferred.

Client Testimonial

“I reflect on my experience of working with John through a 1-1 intensive with real tenderness.

John embodies so many valuable qualities as a practitioner: warmth, insight, compassion, presence, and absolute integrity.

During my 2 days with John, I knew I was in very safe hands, and trusted that anything that I felt ready to explore could be held without judgement. There were many moments of raw pain, fear, and sadness, and many of laughter, and fun! John skilfully held it all.

I can wholeheartedly recommend John and the beautiful work he does.”

What approach do I take?

My coaching and counelling approach spans across the humanistic, integrative, systemic, neuroscience, shamanic, transpersonal, experiential, somatic and holistic modalities.

Cognitively and emotionally I mainly work with Transactional Analysis. TA is a model for understanding human behaviour, communication and relationships. It was originally developed in the 1950s by the late Eric Berne, MD. The theory of TA, looks at the structure of personality; transactions, the way we relate to others; time structuring; the psychological “games” we play; and life scripts. I also use NLP, IFS, CBT, Gestalt, positive psychology and the systemic approaches of Family & Coaching Constellations.

On the neuroscience non verbal side of things I use NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing), EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), NeurOptimal Neurofeedback, AVE (Audio Visual Entertainment), CES (Cranio-Electro Stimulation) and Meditation.

Somatically I use Somatic Experiencing, Breathwork and Dance, my previous. training as a Reflexologist and Holistic Masseuse also informs my approach. Working outdoors and/or assisted by a canine also leads to a deeper somatic experience.

Spiritually I take a shamanic approach. Shamanism is the oldest spiritual and healing practice on the planet dating back 50,000 years. This tradition has grown out of humanity’s experience of evolving out of the earth and our intimate connections to our mother. Shamanism is the path to knowledge which is gained through experience of many aspects of life, such as rituals, ceremonies, prayer, meditation, trials and tests. It is the practise, or discipline of interconnectedness and unlimited potential; which can create a total transformation of self. I also use Aura Soma & Reiki.

This blended approach invites people to develop awareness as to what may be preventing them from accessing their own true nature in the inner and outer expressions of their life. It is aimed at the person as a whole: mind, heart, soul and body. It invites people through the working relationship to develop awareness and insight leading to an integration of the internal and external self. It explores each person’s own resources and capacity for self-determination and ability to become closer to their authentic selves.

A process which I call: Becoming you.

Working Outdoors

A part of my unique way of working is to embrace the outdoors. I give my clients the option of working outdoors as well as in my private room. This can take the form of simply walking and talking and/or using more focused awareness exercises. We may decide to sit in a particular spot for the entire session or vary our route a little from session to session. There is potential for a great deal of flexibility here, governed by client preference and weather! You do not need to be 'super fit' or even particularly outdoors-oriented to benefit from this type of work.

All of the areas I use offer a good deal of variety for the work, including mixed woodlands; far reaching views across the landscape, a sandy beach, river-side paths, seats to sit a while and even some more private spaces to settle into.

Although there is public access to all of the areas they are never over-run with people.. All the traditional boundaries for effective work will still apply, including a mutually agreed focus for our work and agreements concerning confidentiality. The latter, particularly important, as we may occasionally encounter other people whilst outside.

Canine Assisted Work

Recent studies have proved that canine’s bring a number of health benefits, such as lower blood pressure, lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, as well as increased production of serotonin and dopamine.

One explanation for these supportive effects is that a dog fulfils the most basic human need to touch. The companionship of a dog can help to calm and soothe us, ease anxiety and boost our mood. Stroking, holding and fussing over a canine friend helps reduce our sense of isolation and loneliness.

If we accept all of the above, then we also accept that a dog is supportive. Young and old, fit and frail, alert and impaired, all of us can benefit from the presence of a dog.
